EverHint Signal — SMA20 × SMA50 Crossover — December 22, 2025
What This Signal Is (Quick)
The SMA20 × SMA50 Crossover is one of the most stable and reliable trend-following strategies. It tracks when the 20-day simple moving average (SMA20) crosses the 50-day simple moving average (SMA50):
Golden Cross (Buy): SMA20 crosses above SMA50 → bullish momentum confirmation. This signals that short-term price action (20 days) is now exceeding the medium-term trend (50 days). Ideal for medium-term trend following with 4-12 week holding periods.
Death Cross (Sell): SMA20 crosses below SMA50 → bearish momentum reversal. Short-term momentum weakens below the medium-term trend, often signaling exits or reversal alerts.
Because both indicators are simple moving averages (not exponential), this strategy produces fewer but higher-quality signals with minimal whipsaws. It's the most conservative of the moving average crossover strategies.
This is an experimental scanner. Signals are for educational and research purposes only.
How We Ranked Today (Reader Version)
Buy signals are ranked by RSI (14-day) from lowest to highest. Lower RSI values indicate more oversold conditions, which can present better risk/reward entries when combined with a bullish crossover.
Sell signals are also ranked by RSI from lowest to highest, helping identify the most weakened names first.
We've overlaid:
- Insider Net Flows (last 90 days) — calculated from open-market purchases minus sales only
- Days to Earnings — time until next earnings report
- Recent news headlines — last 3 days of price-moving developments
These signals are designed for educational use and back-testing. Always do your own due diligence.

Vlad's Take (EverHint)
Market Context: Sunday December 22, 2025 close — S&P 500 +0.19%, Nasdaq -0.09%, Dow +0.31%. Mixed sentiment with large-caps and value slightly outperforming tech. The VIX closed at 14.12 (-6.86%), indicating low volatility and a complacent market environment. Small-caps (Russell 2000) gained 0.64%, outperforming the Nasdaq, suggesting some risk-on appetite and rotation into domestically-focused names. Treasury yields were relatively stable. Bitcoin -0.14%, Ethereum -0.23%. Overall: Mildly bullish, low-vol environment — ideal for swing trades with reduced whipsaw risk.
Strategy Implications:
The SMA20 × SMA50 crossover is the most stable of the moving average strategies. With VIX at 14, you have more room for position sizing and slightly wider stops. The 42 golden cross signals today represent a broad basket of medium-term trend confirmations.
What I'd watch:
-
High-conviction oversold buys: GPC (RSI 39.69), EXP (41.56), and MRVL (41.85) offer better risk/reward — trend confirmation plus oversold bounce potential. Just note MRVL has insider selling.
-
Momentum + insider buying = rare combo: CRM (RSI 80.44) is extended but Mason Morfit just put $25M to work. That's a strong vote of confidence. I'd wait for a pullback to the SMA20 (~$248) before entry.
-
BRBR caution: RSI 43.46 with a securities investigation underway. The golden cross might be a trap — pass until clarity emerges.
-
Technology rotation: ADBE and CRM leading the charge with AI partnerships. MCHP and MRVL are semiconductor plays. SHOP consolidating. Tech breadth is mixed but leaders are strong.
-
Death crosses in quality names: BG (RSI 21.55) and DGX (32.75) are in real trouble. Avoid catching falling knives. These trends typically persist for weeks.
-
Industrials strength: 10 buy signals across diversified names (construction, logistics, staffing, defense). Economic rotation signal?
Tiered Entry Strategy: With low VIX, you can use slightly wider stops (3-4% below SMA50). For oversold names, consider entering 50% now and 50% on a re-test of SMA20. For overbought momentum names (RSI > 70), wait for a 5-10% pullback to the SMA20 before initiating.
Risk Management: The 5 death crosses are reminders that not every stock participates in a bull market. Use the SMA50 as your line in the sand — if price closes below it on volume, the golden cross thesis is invalidated.
